Sabrina Molina Ramos, BEL Fellow
Sabrina is an Environmental Justice Fellow at The 2035 Initiative. She obtained her Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development degree from Universidad Iberoamericana and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Environmental Science and Management at the Bren School. She aims to combine political ecology with scientific research to support environmental justice, governance, and development in the Global South. Her research experience includes Participatory Action Research with rural communities to strengthen local resource management and spatial analysis of land use conflicts in Natural Protected Areas in Mexico.

Izzy Sofio, BEL Fellow
Izzy is a Bren Environmental Leadership Fellow at the 2035 Initiative. Her time working with natural resources stakeholder engagement and personal experiences with wildfires and drought inspired her return to higher education and interest in learning how to improve community climate adaptation, develop scalable policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and implement carbon-free practices. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado, Boulder (2020) with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a minor in English. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Environmental Science and Management from the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management.

Ariana Gomez, BEL Fellow
Ariana is an Environmental Justice Fellow at The 2035 Initiative, where she supports research on extractive oil industries and disaster prevention and preparedness in Mexico. Her role involves organizing and interpreting datasets to better understand the socio-environmental impacts on the region. Ariana aims to further her research in tectonics and seismology, with a keen interest in integrating these fields with environmental policy and advocacy. She is currently pursuing a double major in Geophysics and Statistics & Data Science.

Katie McElroy, BEL Fellow
Katie is a Bren Environmental Leadership Fellow at The 2035 Initiative. She is an incoming fourth-year undergraduate student at UCSB, majoring in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Law and Policy. In her role as an undergraduate fellow with the 2035 Initiative, she focuses on researching effective ways to communicate the findings of the Building Resilience to Wildfire project. Katie is passionate about connecting research with policy, striving to ensure that critical insights are effectively translated and reach policymakers in a way that influences and shapes effective environmental policies.
